Funny to hear it this way, eventhough it does not capture the intensity of the original it is still a nice version.
Sure the Original is very better, Wganda Kenya, recorded many African versions of melodias of great acceptance in the Coast north of Colombia, and (Wganda) them applied their style.

Julian y su Combo I love, the LP "Noche de Fiesta" is amazing
The track "Las Caleñas son como las flores" was also done by the Latin Brothers (great version) & recently by the Colombia All Stars (nice CD, you should buy this one Rob - one of my favourite recent Salsa CDs)
Michi Sarmiento also made some great records, I have a 45 of his version of Afredo Linares' big hit "Tiahuanaco" which is even better than the original I think.
Most modern Salsa is very flat by comparison.
Afrocuban,
I found in my Vinyl collection the Vinyl Lp de Alfredo Linares of PERU TIHUANACO
Also see another song that included in this Album very appreciated: MI DULCE AMOR.
I will show the Cover art of the Vinyl
